Yes, primarily Vocaloids cost money. They can often be found on eBay or Amazon. The exceptions are voice banks that can be won by participating in the contests. For example,

  • Akikoloid-chan is currently for personal use by the company she is connected to. Only a few chosen producers were given her voice bank for production.
  • Bruno and Clara could be won by placing in an art contest. Both are for purchase. On their second anniversary they could be purchased at a discount price.
  • Galaco could be won by getting over 1,000 views on Nico Nico Douga. She is currently not up for purchase.
  • SeeU could be won by placing in an art contest. She is for purchase.
  • Sonika could be won by placing in an art contest. She is for purchase.
  • Oliver's initial release allowed fans to get him at a discount. He is for purchase.
  • Avanna's initial release allowed for people to use a keyword to receive a ten dollar discount on her standard price.

The program that is similar to Vocaloid is UTAU, and UTAU are freeware.
